Today we had a writing task with the whole classroom for Abstract Noun poems. In this activity we learnt how to understand what a metaphor is and how we use them writing. We worked in groups to collaborate this challenge and make into a powerful eye catching DLO. Something we found interesting about doing this task was that we could take our writing to another level we could use a lot of different language features it was a fun piece of writing.

Maori

LI:to learn the diffrent names in maori.

For maori today we had to find out names. We had to connect the engilsh names to the maori names.

ML Forming an Opinion

 LI: to consider both perspectives.

To continue our learning of Matariki, and the Maori story of Creation our task was to create a DLO to explain the evidence and perspective of a maori story. We read about Sacred Spots from Māori Mythology. We used the different evidence from the articles to create an opinion on whether we think it is true or false.

The story we chose to do was about the Tongariro National Park. This story talked about the mountains that surrounded Taupo lake, they were all male except for one. Her name was Pihanga. They fought for the love of Pihanga, only one came out victorious. That mountain was Tongariro.

venn diagram

LI: to find as many similarities and differences as you can between the video and the text of “The Beginning”.

To continue our learning of Matariki, and the Maori story of Creation our task was to create a Venn Diagram. For our Venn Diagram we compared the differences and similarities between the Video and Written Version of the Maori Creation Story.

A Venn Diagram, is a diagram showcasing the differences and similarities between two different things.

Summary

LI: to explain in fewer words what the text is about

For our Inquiry we were learning about Matariki, and the origin story. Our task was to watch a video on the Maori Creation story and we had to summarise the video. The video was an artist representing and creating the story through sand art.

Our 20 important words had to be the top important words from the video, words that represented the story. Then from the 20 we had to pick the 6 most important words Then using those 6 words we had to sum up the story in a few sentences.

Main ideas

LI: to identify the main ideas in the text.

To continue our learning of Matariki, and the Maori story of Creation our task was to create a DLO explaining the main ideas of the story of how maui slowed the sun. We watched a video explaining the story of how maui slowed the sun and why.

Maui and the villagers weren’t able to finish off their tasks during the day because the sun went by too fast. They got sick of it so maui and his brother made a plan to slow the sun. They used flax ropes and he magical jawbone Maui was given by his grandmother.

Creative writing

LI: To understand how to use descriptive words to make your writing more interesting.

Our focus for writing this week was to use descriptive writing, which means using words that are powerful, making your text more exciting to read and add more detail into your writing. We were tasked to work collaboratively in pairs to complete this task.

Our task was to describe one of the two pictures that we were given. To make this task easier we would use our prior knowledge of sentence structures, nouns, verbs, adjectives, and descriptive words to create a piece of writing that uses descriptive words to make the text exciting to read.

I found this interesting because we learnt Descriptive writing.

Science

Today at tech we learnt about floating and sinking the teacher gave us balls like a tennis ball and   marbles
we predicted if it would float or sink.

-Marbles - large and small size

-Golf Ball

-Tennis ball

-Different sized wooden block

-Different sized plastic block

-Polystyrene

these are the equipment for the experiment

The first experiment, nearly all the objects sunked. The second experiment, all the object floated. i enjoyed how we put the balls in the water and it floated and sinked and semifloated.

I enjoyed this activity because the experiments were fun.

Pulleys | Simple Machines

LI: To find the information for simple machines.

We collaborated in our group to find information about simple machines. There are 6 simple machines. They are, wheel and axle, screw, wedge, pulley, lever, and an inclined plane. Our challenge was to create labelled diagrams. Using the information and facts we found we created a 25 word summary for each simple machine. Pulleys help you to move the load or change direction of the forces.

Wedge | Simple Machines

Following Classroom Rules & Expectations | PB4L

LI: To follow the rules and expectations, expected from teachers.

This weeks PB4L learning is about following classroom rules and expectations. PB4L is a acronym describing Positive Behavior for Learning. PB4L helps us understand the correct behavior for inside classroom learning and outer learning. This consist of Classroom discussions, walking to assembly, behaviour on school trips, wet day procedure eg. respecting wet day monitors. All of these prospects will help us develop a strong and healthy learning enviroment.

I found this activty intersting because we learnt how to respect teachers and each other.

Science (Tech)

LI: To try using labortory equipment

Today I went tech at tamaki college. Mrs Shama showed us what equipments were for and then we used them in a experement. We had to time how long it takes for the sugar to evolve in water.
The temputure of the cold water was 24c, The temuture for the hot water was 82c, it took 1min and 4 sec for the sugar to elvolve in the cold water, and  it took 28 sec for the sugar to elvolve in the hot water

Current Events

LI: To find the important information in a current event.

LI: To identify the author's purpose.

This week for Reading we learnt about author's purpose. Authors write for a purpose/reason. These reasons are to Persuade, Inform, Explain or Entertain (PIE).

First we looked at Kiwi Kids News to find a article. Then, we made a copy of the Current Events DLO and answered these questions:

  • What is the article about?

  • When the article was created?

  • Where was the article was made?

  • Why the author wrote the article?

  • How it was made?

  • Why do you think the author wanted you to learn from the article?

I found this activity interesting because i didnt know that there were still lockdowns close to New Zealand.
